Quick roadside fixes

Flat tyre
  1. 1Move off the road, then take the wheel out.
  2. 2Lever one side of the tyre off the rim and pull out the tube.
  3. 3Run your fingers carefully around the inside of the tyre to find and remove the thorn or glass.
  4. 4Fit the spare tube with a little air in it, push the tyre back on by hand, and pump to the pressure printed on the tyre wall.
Dropped chain
  1. 1Shift to the smallest front ring.
  2. 2Lay the chain back onto the bottom teeth of that ring.
  3. 3Lift the back wheel and turn the pedals slowly forward until the chain runs on.
Brake rubbing
  1. 1Check the wheel is sitting straight and its quick-release or axle is tight.
  2. 2On rim brakes, make sure the small release lever on the brake is closed.
  3. 3If it still rubs, ride gently to the nearest shop below.
